About the Hall
Built in 1908 by the Danish Brotherhood, Washington Hall has anchored Seattle’s Square Park neighborhood to the Central District for over 115 years. From Danish and Yiddish theatrical productions in the 1910s to boxing matches in the 1940s to Filipino Youth Club dances in the 1950s, the Hall has always been a crossroads for Seattle’s diverse communities.
Historic Seattle acquired the building in 2009, saving it from demolition and beginning a renovation that restored it as a hub for arts, media, and social justice — with 206 Zulu, Black Power Unlimited, and Voices Rising as its anchor partners.
Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Jimi Hendrix, Macklemore, Fugazi, David Bazan, and countless others have walked these halls. The stage has never gone dark. The stage remains active and continues to serve as a vibrant and thriving hub for all.

An internationally recognized coalition engaging youth, low-income communities, and people of color in social change through hip hop music, arts, and culture.

Washington Hall offers two versatile event spaces available for one-time or short-term rental, plus an on-site recording studio.
206 Zulu Ballroom
- Capacity: 735
- Location: Second floor with mezzanine balcony
- Best for: Concerts, performances, conferences, weddings, and private events
Lodge Room
- Capacity: 300
- Location: First floor
- Best for: Meetings, rehearsals, lectures, classes, and smaller gatherings. Can be rented independently or in tandem with a Ballroom event.
Emerald Street Studios
An on-site, state-of-the-art recording studio available to musicians, recording artists, and community members with audio production needs.
