In celebration of Washington State Hip Hop History Month, MoPOP’s POP+ is exploring womxn in hip hop.
Through a month of programs, performances, artifacts, and panel discussions, discover how — despite being marginalized, underpaid, underrepresented, and underrated in hip hop music and culture for decades — womxn have always been integral to the art form and the culture. MoPOP will be displaying artifacts from our hip hop collections, as well as hosting digital events for hip hop lovers of every age.
Hosted by 206 Universal, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing accessible spaces while serving communities through the upliftment, preservation, and celebration of hip hop culture, this IGTV takeover will feature one of Seattle’s rising hip hop stars- I Am Chamel!
Chamel Simmons is an American Songwriter, producer, actor, artist & entrepreneur! Also known as I Am Chamel, originally born in Richmond, Ca; was raised throughout various cities in Washington State. Chamel is known throughout The Pacific Northwest for her undefeated Freestyle Battle Flow & Mesmerizing performances.
