Strictly Street – Floor Combat ’09

Last June 10-14th, Hip Hoppers from many areas of Southeast Asia gathered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to participate in what has become one of the largest break battles in the country. This event, produced by MyPartners and the UZN Malaysian Chapter, hosted thousands of people over the course of a five day span which incorporated a 3-on-3 b-boy battle, Malaysia’s first ever b-girl battle, performances, live graffiti art, dance workshops, ShiftyMag skateboard competition and after parties.

This event, called Strictly Street – Floor Combat, made national news as reporters from far and wide gathered to attend the press conference held on Wednesday. Special guests were Lord Yoda X, King Khazm, B-boy Orbitron and DJ Gumbeaux from the United States who spoke upon the history and relationship of the UZN and Hip Hop, as well as it’s continuing goals in today’s time. Following the Q&A was an induction ceremony for the official establishment of the Malaysian Chapter, an effort that took nearly one year to formalize.

The highlight of the event was the Floor Combat competitions, which was judged by dance luminaries, Orbitron from Seattle, Farhan from Singapore and Noel from Indonesia. 2009 marks the first-ever B-Girl battle in Malaysia, which was well received by 1st place winner B-Girl Seven and a capacity crowd. The footwork battle was taken by B-Boy Zen. The 3-on-3 battle proved to be the best yet as 46 teams underwent the two day elimination. The results are as follows- 1st Radikal Forze, 2nd Force 136 Crew and 3rd Floor Tactics.
